Dr. Bruce Kerns
Dr. Bruce Kerns graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois with Departmental Distinction from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. In 1983, he earned a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Physiology from the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology at Texas A&M University. In 1987, he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Honors from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. In 1999, he became only the second veterinarian in the state of Connecticut to certify as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (specialist in Canine and Feline Practice). He serves as a member on the Leadership Council of the American Animal Hospital Association. In addition to establishing the Countryside Veterinary Hospital, LLC, he also founded and operates Mobile Veterinary Imaging, LLC, a diagnostic ultrasound practice consulting with veterinary hospitals in southwestern Connecticut.
He and his wife, Holly, have been residents of Newtown since 1991 and are the proud parents of three children, Jessica, Aileen, and Peter. They enjoy the company of their dog, "Miss Sadie" and cat 'Maverick'. He is an usher at St. Stephen's Church in Trumbull where his wife, Holly, is a CCD teacher. His hobbies include skiing, sailing, boating, fishing, genealogy and photography, especially while traveling with his family.
Dr. Jeffrey Santee
Dr. Jeff Santee graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. He received his Master's Degree in Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology in 1988 and his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1984 also from Ohio State. During his junior and senior years he completed an externship program at Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Following graduation, he completed a one year internship at Pittsford Animal Hospital in Rochester, New York. Dr. Santee has practiced in Connecticut since 1992, joined Countryside Veterinary Hospital in 1999, and became a partner in 2005.
Dr. Santee's wife, Amy, a graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and the Yale School of Public Health, is an Executive Director at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. They have been Monroe residents since 2000; have two children: Paige and Will; a yellow lab named "Caroline" and a poodle named 'Buddy'.
Dr. Santee's interests are college football (Go Buckeyes!), volleyball, weight training, and having an active role in his children's sports teams.
Dr. Jim Micinilio
Dr. Jim Micinilio graduated in 1987 as Valedictorian of his class from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1991. During his senior year, he completed an externship at Angell Memorial Animal Center in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduation Dr. Micinilio performed veterinary work at Beardsley Zoological Gardens in Bridgeport, Connecticut, as well as working for 7 years at a small animal and exotics practice in Stratford. Dr. Micinilio joined Countryside Veterinary Hospital as a full time associate in 2003 and became partner in 2005.
Dr. Micinilio enjoys fishing every chance he gets, sometimes in exotic locations. He also enjoys movies, bicycling and spending time with his nephews. Dr. Micinilio is a Connecticut native residing in Stratford along with an array of turtles, lizards and snakes.
Dr. Sarina Cheng Hinsley
A graduate of Haverford College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. In 1999, Dr. Hinsley graduated 3rd in her class from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine where she received, with distinction, her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hinsley has practiced in both New Haven and Fairfield counties since 1999. She joined Countryside Veterinary Hospital in 2007.
Dr. Hinsley is a resident of Trumbull along with her son Garrett, daughter Penelope, and her husband David, who serves as Managing Partner for a national consulting firm based in Manhattan. She is also the parent/guardian to 4 dogs- 'Payson Tucker' a collie and 3 shih tzus- 'Rascal', 'Cookie' and 'Monster'. A cat named 'Pumpkin' and rabbit named "Mr. Hopper".
Dr. Shael Littleton
Dr. Littleton studied pathophysiology at UCONN until 1996 when she was accepted early admission into the University of Minnesota veterinary program. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine in 1998 while attending veterinary school. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Dr. Littleton has worked as an associate in several practices in the Hartford and Fairfield County areas. In addition, she owned her own veterinary practice for several years before joining Countryside Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Littleton is a resident of Trumbull where she lives with her husband and two children, She currently has 2 black cats, “Tattoo” and “Pinklepurr”.
Outside of spending time with her children, Dr. Littleton’s interests are physical fitness, gardening, reading and spending as much time as possible outdoors.
Dr. Emily Salvatore
Dr. Salvatore graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She double majored in Animal Science and Pathobiology & Veterinary Sciences. She went on to graduate from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.
Dr. Salvatore is a native of Connecticut and returned to the area after finishing her schooling. She resides locally with her husband Jeremy (also a veterinarian!), son Lucas, two dogs 'Nutmeg' and 'Delmer', and three cats 'Dexter', 'Pia' and 'Bella'.
Dr. Salvatore is an avid Red Sox fan and enjoys spending her free time working out at the gym, reading and walking her dogs.
